Pair a less-preferred task with a preferred one using a simple ‘first shoes, then park’ structure. Visuals help. Predictability lowers the stakes for everyone.

If a request reliably ends in meltdown, the request is too big. Break it down until your child can succeed, then layer the difficulty back in gradually.

Ask what the behavior is telling you before asking how to stop it. Escape, attention, access, sensory — the function shapes the response.

Bribery happens after a problem behavior starts. Reinforcement is planned in advance, tied to a clear expectation, and faded over time as the new behavior takes hold.
